The UKAVita Project
Biogas technology is a promising alternative to reduce environmental burden caused by organic waste and agricultural residues and to generate renewable ener-gy in Vietnam. However, there are several challenges associated with it such as: corrosion in biogas plants and gas usage facilities due to the presence of H2S, gas leakages due to inappropriate dimensioning and construction of the biogas plants, and nutrients and pathogens entering the soil, surface and ground water bodies due to lacking effluent treatment. In Germany, over the past years biogas technology has made great strives in terms of environmental perfor-mance. This experience will proof helpful for the im-provement and further implementation of biogas technologies in Vietnam. The German-Vietnamese cooperation project UKAVi-ta stands for Environment- and climate-sound adapta-tion of biogas plants in Vietnam. It supports coopera-tion among stakeholders via the Vietnamese Biogas Network.
